MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A local historical preservation group and author were awarded Wednesday during the Marquette Regional History Centers annual meeting.
John Parlin was given the Helen Longyear Paul Award. The award honors individuals who interpret, share and preserve Upper Peninsula history Parlin is an author who has written multiple books on the medical history of Marquette County and continues to Research history of the U.P.
The Peter White award, which recognizes foundations, organizations, and institutions, was presented to the northern Michigan university archives. The archives work to collect, organize and preserve historical documents and pieces of history from all over the central upper peninsula. Recently they have begun to digitize their collection through the upper peninsula digital network, also known as UPLINK. The website makes all of the archives documents easily accessible to anyone.
The history center also held its annual meeting with its board of trustees and reported on all of the events the center held throughout the past year. executive director cris osier thanked all of the history centers volunteers for making the History Center possible.
