MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A U.P. historian is working on a book detailing Black history in the Upper Peninsula.
For the past few years Professors and Librarians around the U.P. have noticed that on holidays like Juneteenth and during Black History Month there are little to no resources detailing Black history in Northern Michigan.
Russell Magnaghi, a historian and author, has been working to change that. He has a book coming out later this year that will provide an overview of three centuries of black history in the U.P.
Mangnaghi book will take a look at things like the change in Black population in the U.P. and topics such as interracial marriage.
Mangnaghi’s book will be released later this year and distributed at local bookstores and retailers.
