WZMQ 19 to present special program in honor of Black History Month

by WZMQ
January 30, 2023
A A

WZMQ 19 is proud to present a special, half-hour program “The Legacy” during Black History Month in February.

The broadcast, hosted by Isley Gooden, focuses on The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration.

The Legacy is located on a site in Montgomery, Alabama where Black people were forced to work in bondage. This new program explores the critically acclaimed museum and provides a comprehensive history of slavery in the United States.

Executive Director Bryan Stevenson of the Equal Justice Initiative is recognized as a national authority on racism and provides insights into the museum’s mission and purpose during an exclusive interview. The program will include a visit to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, a six-acre site that memorializes victims of racial terror in America.

Black History Month is celebrated throughout February.

Television journalists spent a week in Montgomery, Alabama, to produce this special in addition to “Triumph Over Tragedy,” which aired during the Martin Luther King holiday.

The Legacy will air on WZMQ CBS on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 11:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 p.m.
