NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ)- Negaunee High School confirmed a student died in an early morning crash Friday in Negaunee.
The driver and passenger of a car were seriously injured in a crash with a logging truck in Negaunee early Friday morning, according to police.
It happened at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Teal Lake Ave. around 5:30 a.m.
A black Subaru Impreza was heading north on Teal Lake Ave. when police said the driver failed to stop at the flashing red light at the intersection.
A logging truck was heading east on U.S. 41 at the time and hit the car, according to police.
The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and were taken to UPHS Marquette.
The 27-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the semi was not injured.
The Negaunee School District has confirmed in a letter sent to parents that the occupants of the vehicle were students of Negaunee High School.
The superintendent said that one of the students in the car has died and another is still receiving medical care. At this time there is no update on their condition.

It is with deep regret that we inform you about a loss to our school community. This morning, a high school student passed away in a car accident. A second student was also in the accident and is being treated for injuries. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school community, especially our students.
Negaunee Public Schools has a crisis response team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. At our schools, we have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss.
We have enclosed some information that may be useful to you in helping your child at home. If you would like additional information or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Brunette, Mrs. Morey or myself.
We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as you need.
