MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Marquette man was found guilty Wednesday of multiple criminal sexual conduct charges and weapons charges.
The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office said after a two-day jury trial, Jason Thomas Leist, 42, was convicted of seven felonies, including two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, each of which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison; one county of weapons-firearms-discharge in or at a building, which carries a maximum 10-year penalty; two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, each of which carries a maximum four-year penalty; and two counts of felony weapons-firearm, each of which carries a consecutive two-year penalty.
Leist’s sentencing is scheduled in approximately six weeks.
Marquette County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jenna Nelson prosecuted the case on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan.
The case was investigated by Detective Jason Hart and Deputy Jesse Fergin of the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
