WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight the House Committee investigating the January 6th 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol will hold their first landmark hearings. The committee said they will release previously unseen material documenting January 6th and show the American people an initial summary of their months-long investigation.
Following the attack at the Capitol, the committee has spent their time conducting interviews and witness testimony, including hearing from those closest to former President Donald Trump. Congressional members on the committee said they will show a multi-step effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election which led up to the attack on the U.S. Capitol. On that day, people stormed the capitol, trying to stop congress’ constitutional duties to validate the presidential election. During that attack, several people died, many more were injured and ultimately, left a dark mark in our history. We can expect the committee to explain how former President Trump was at the center of the effort trying to overturn the 2020 election results.
Witnesses for this first hearing will include a journalist who documented what was happening that day. The committee will also hear from a former U.S. Capitol Police officer who sustained a traumatic brain injury from the attack.
