Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) have awarded grants to two small businesses in the Upper Peninsula, the state announced Monday.
Peace Pie Company in Marquette and Keweenaw Coffee Works in Houghton will each receive $25,000 through the Match on Main (MoM) program.
It provides funding to communities that participate as a select and master level community in the Michigan Main Street program or are a Certified Redevelopment Ready community, according to MEDC.
19 communities in Michigan will benefit from a total of $491,834 in grants. The grants are expected to create or retain 135 full-time jobs, and the projects are expected to produce a total private investment of more than $2.9 million.
The grants can be used to support technical assistance, interior building renovations, the activation of an outdoor space or business infrastructure related to COVID-19 recovery, and other working capital needs like marketing needs and inventory expenses. Other needs are also considered.
