John Truitt is a native son of the UP, having been born and raised in Marquette and graduating from Northern Michigan University. John has been working in television for over 40 years, starting his career at a local Marquette station as a janitor/reporter, before moving on to bigger things.
John has worked in local television news in Grand Rapids, Philadelphia, and Chicago before going on to the network level at CBS News where he covered some of the biggest stories of the 21st century, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, The Iraq War in Baghdad, and the election campaigns of presidents, Clinton, Bush, and Obama. John loves covering politics and government and was fortunate to work at the White House on many occasions.
John also served as Director of Photography for an international travel show on the Discovery Channel, traveling the globe covering festivals and cultural events. John has won 6 Emmy Awards, as well as several local and regional awards for his videography.
In 2022, John decided to come home to the UP to be closer to his family, and report on the rich tapestry that is life in the Upper Peninsula. John lives in Marquette, only blocks from where he grew up. When he is not covering news he enjoys skiing, motorcycles, scuba diving, being outdoors and giving back to the community through volunteering with several causes. Truitt loves to run into old friends on the street, as well as making new ones each day.
