It's wonderful because it's so accessible. You know it's really supposed to inspire, play, and joy. And that's the whole purpose of this exhibit is to get people interacting to you know with each other and trying to create different sounds, with each other. So very joyful and something to brighten up these dark winter nights for sure.

With last winter's abnormally warm weather behind us, downhill skiers are hoping for more normal winter conditions this season. Marquette Mountain has been making snow since late November. The ski resort has been able to lay down a decent base with its snowmaking equipment. The goal is to maintain the man-made snow as long as possible with the hopes of adding more natural snow later in the week. According to Marquette Mountain's General Manager, Kaet Johnson the resort is scheduled to open on the 14th of December. Which historically has been a typical opening date for the resort.

The streets of Munising were alive tonight with the spirit of Christmas. The Rekindle The Spirit Festival kicked off the holiday season on Thursday. Munising's Christmas tree was officially lit this evening by none other than Santa Claus himself. The lighting of the tree is the official start of the holiday season and the start of the annual Rekindle The Spirit Festival here in downtown Munising. With the falling snow and all the festive lights on area businesses, Munising was transformed into a winter wonderland. CEO of the Alger County Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Kathy Reynolds says the hearty residents of Munising came out despite the weather. "Things, I think went really well. You know, the weather's been a little bit tricky, so we were kind of concerned about that leading up to this, but we had a nice crowd come out tonight, and the businesses really put on a nice show for everybody," said Dr. Reynolds.

With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, relaxation may seem out of reach, but a new local business in Marquette has just the answer. The world today is full of distractions that are pulling us this way and that, but what if you could unplug and turn down the volume of your busy life? What if you could shut out all the manic energy and noise that surrounds us each day? Say hello to float therapy—an enclosed capsule filled with body-temperature water that allows you to float weightlessly in total darkness. Peter Torelli, Co-owner of Aquapodics float therapy explains the experience. "When you're floating is pretty much like a weight-lifted experience, very calm, very relaxing, as if you're in a dark cave, just floating, just you and yourself," said Torelli.

Today is Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement that encourages giving in any way you can. Today's outreach at Jamerich Hall on Northern's campus helped establish relationships and build the mindset of giving of oneself. Grow and Learn Community and Youth Development hosted this informational program at NMU today. The goal was to bring awareness to the countless opportunities available to give back. Taylor Olson-Brutto, Outreach Coordinator for Grow and Learn, says giving means different things to different people, but it all boils down to thinking of others. "We are celebrating our local campaign, which is Give 906 we support and help all the nonprofits across the up through our local campaign called Give 906," said Olson-Brutto Olson Brutto says the people of the Upper Peninsula are very generous.

The Upper Peninsula has seen significant lake-effect snow, especially in areas with a Northwest exposure to Lake Superior. 19 News spoke with the National Weather Service, about why some places received two feet of snow and others, less than an inch. Since Thanksgiving, the City of Munising has seen 24" of snow, while Marquette received less than an inch. According to Meteorologist Matt Zika with the National Weather Service, this past fall has been the warmest on record causing higher water temperatures, so when frigid air passes over that warm water it gets absorbed by the system and falls as snow once it makes landfall. "And with the pattern set up with this cold air over the record warm waters, it just sets up the machine to where it was just dumping snow in areas favored by northwesterly winds," said Zika.
