NMU announces 2025 Football Schedule

Six home games; including Miner’s Cup

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan football team has announced its schedule for the 2025 season, with the 11-game slate consisting of six home games and five on the road.

“We have a schedule that is very competitive and unique as we go into this 2025 season,” said coach Shane Richardson. “Our road games are manageable as four of the five are in-state. There are some non-conference teams that are new to us and we also have the opportunity to double-up with Davenport, who has been very competitive. There’s value to playing a team both home and away as it will give us an opportunity to see how we grow and improve throughout the season. We will take on a FCS opponent in St. Thomas and this will be exciting for our guys to compete against a higher level program.”

The season begins in the Superior Dome on Thursday, August 28 at 6 p.m. when Northern hosts Minnesota State-Moorhead for a non-conference game in what will be the first meeting between the two programs.

NMU will hit the road the following week, traveling below the Mackinac Bridge to Northwood for a non-conference game on September 6. Another non-conference matchup will follow on September 13 when the ‘Cats host Division I FCS St. Thomas at 1 p.m.

The homecoming game will take place on September 20 at 1 p.m., with Davenport on the schedule for a non-conference affair.

After a bye week, the GLIAC slate begins on October 4 when Northern travels to Saginaw Valley State. NMU’s first home conference game will follow on October 11 when they host Grand Valley State for a night game at 7 p.m. The team will return to the road on October 18 to take on Roosevelt in the Windy City, its lone trip across the borders of Michigan.

The Miner’s Cup will be up for grabs in Marquette on October 25 when Northern welcomes Upper Peninsula rival Michigan Tech, beginning at noon.

On the first of November, the Wildcats will head downstate to take on defending national champion Ferris State. NMU will then get its second look at Davenport in its final road game the following weekend, taking on the Panthers on November 8.

The final game of the season will also be Senior Day, as Northern hosts Wayne State on November 15 at 1 p.m.

We play in the best Division II conference in the country and it will be a great challenge to compete against all of these teams,” added Richardson. We look forward to continually displaying our improvement as a program week-to-week. We will aim to focus on ourselves and go into each of these contests with an energy that is ready to compete at a high level.”
