Wright named All-American in 1,650 at NCAA Championships

Wildcats finish in 39th place

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NMU women’s swim and dive team completed the 2025 NCAA National Championships on Saturday.

The team laid claim to a pair of All-Americans to end the week, including Anika Wright earning a first team All-America honor with an 8th place finish in the 1650 freestyle. Mia Strazny earned a second team All-America honor for her 16th place finish in the 200 backstroke.

As a team, the Wildcats finished 16th of 39 teams with 66 team points. Nova South Eastern were crowned champions at 475 points, followed by Drury with 463 and Colorado Mesa at 376.

Prelims/ Morning Session
Strazny and Camilla Carbone both competed in the 200 backstroke to start the day for the ‘Cats. Strazny swam in heat four and placed fourth in her heat with a time of 2:00.16, finishing 15th overall and qualifying for the consolation finals. Carbone swam in heat two and posted a time of 2:02.88, finishing 5th in her heat and 29th overall.

Wright and Annika Geyer swam in the 1650 free time trials. Wright took first place in her heat and 8th place overall with a time of 16:55.29, earning her a first team All-America honor. Geyer took seventh in her respective heat with a time of 17:24.47, finishing 27th overall.

Finals/ Evening Session
Strazny swam in lane one of the 200 backstroke consolation finals, finishing 8th in the heat with her time of 2:01.61 and a second team All-America accolade.

The 400 free relay team of Wright (53.80), Geyer (53.13), Strazny (53.07), and Carbone (54,78) ended the day with a time of 3:34.78, finishing 4th in their respective heat and 20th overall.
