13 Wildcats score at least one goal
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan women’s lacrosse team downed the UW-Stout Blue Devils 18-1, moving to 2-0 to open 2025.
It was a team attack for the Wildcats, with 13 ‘Cats recording at least one goal. The last time the Wildcats had 13 or more players record at least one point was on 2/24/24 in a 20-3 win over College of Saint Benedict.
Emily Radke, Taylor Roberts, Sophie Langsdale, Avery Lorinser, and Laine Stanton all scored a pair of goals. Josie Lakosky, Camryn Mayer, and Taylor Priestley all recorded a goal and assist.
The Cats’ 17-point margin of victory was their largest since that same game against the Bennies in February of last season.
This was the first time the Wildcats had allowed one goal or fewer since 2/27/23, when they won 21-0 over Concordia-Ann Arbor. It is only the third time in program history that NMU has allowed one goal or fewer in a single game (2/16/25 vs. UW-Stout; 2/27/23 vs. Concordia-Ann Arbor; 2/18/2017 vs. Northland, 18-1).
A truly dominant performance, NMU outshot the opposition 28-8, held an 18-8 ground ball advantage, and caused 12 turnovers to four.
Annabelle Johnson and Taylor Priestley led the field with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Green and Gold now look ahead to next weekend, a solo-home contest against Wisconsin La Crosse on Saturday, February 22, at noon from the Superior Dome.
How It Happened
Abby Sissan started the ‘Cats off with a goal in the first 30 seconds of the game. Only a few minutes later, Taylor Priestley hit a banger into the net, then Josie Lakosky found Avery Lorinser inside the eight-meter to put the ‘Cats up by three. With Northern on fire, Emily Radke added two tallies to the scoreboard, scoring her first goal of the 2025 season, followed by Lakosky finding a goal of her own.
Up 6-0 by the seventh minute, the ‘Cats were just getting started. Sophie Langsdale and Laine Stanton each scored goals to further the scoring gap to eight. Hannah Jabas found the back of the net, Annabelle Johnson scored her first goal of the season, and the ‘Cats were up by 10 before the end of the first quarter, starting a running clock.
As the second quarter went underway, Taylor Roberts scored a goal in the first minute and a half and Camryn Mayer found her first goal of the season to continue NMU’s shut-out lead 12-0. Stanton scored her second goal of the game, and Lorinser scored a goal of her own to end the second quarter at 14-0.
Keeping possession for almost the entirety of the game, the ‘Cats sustained their dominant lead.
At minute 10 of the third quarter, Camryn Mayer lofted a pass inside the eight meter to Roberts, where she scored her second goal of the game. Katelyn Wozney added yet another tally to the scoreboard, scoring her first goal of the season.
Peyton Smith started the fourth quarter off with her first goal of the season, followed by a second goal of the game for Langsdale. Though Northern thought the game was going to be a shut-out, the Blue Devils found a goal in the last 10 seconds of the game. The final score was 18-1 Wildcats.
