45 points in overtime victory at Ferris State
HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the third time this season, junior guard Marcus Tomashek has been named the GLIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
This marks the third Offensive Player of the Week accolade for the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year.
Tomashek, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, scored a career-high 45 points in Saturday’s win over No. 8 Ferris State to hand the Bulldogs its second GLIAC loss of the season and help the Huskies to an 8-2 league standing sitting atop the GLIAC in a three-way tie with FSU and No. 14 Lake Superior State.
The win marked the first for the Huskies at the Jim Wink Arena since the 2014-15 season. Tomashek tied the program record for most 3-point attempts (15) and his nine 3-point makes were one shy of tying the most 3-pointers made in a single game in program history. The 45-point outburst is the best in the GLIAC this season and ranks tied for third in Division II for most points in a single game.
For the game, Tomashek shot 13-for-27 from the field, 9-for-15 from 3-point land and 10-for-14 from the free-throw line. He also recorded a career-high eight assists and a team-leading seven rebounds in the win.
The win marked the second top-10 win this season for the Black & Gold, also defeating then-No. 3 nationally-ranked MSU Moorhead on Nov. 23, 2024, which saw Tomashek earn GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors along with being named the NABC/D2SIDA Player of the Week. Tomashek also led the Huskies in scoring, with 23 points on Thursday at No. 14 Lake Superior State.
The Huskies are back in action at home, where they remain undefeated this season, hosting Davenport on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and Grand Valley State for Alumni Day (2:00 p.m.) Saturday.
