Ferris State wins series opener 3-1
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The NMU hockey team fell 3-1 to Ferris State on Friday night.
The Wildcats (1-13-1, 0-8-1) lone goal scorer was Aidyn Hutchinson, who finished off a slick passing play from Grayden Slipec and Jakub Altrichter. This was Hutchinson’s second goal of the season, Slipec’s sixth point and fourth assist, and Altrichter’s fifth assist and point of the campaign.
The Bulldogs (5-10-2, 4-7-0) had three different goal scorers and a 35-save .975 SV% performance from Noah West, his third-most single-game saves, and highest non-shutout single-game save percentage of the season.
The Cats outshot the Bulldogs 36-26, the second consecutive game the team has outshot its opposition and the second-highest shot differential on the season.
Dominant in the faceoff dot, NMU won 44 draws to FSU’s 23, led by exceptional nights from Jesse Tucker (20/27, 74.1%) and Danny Ciccarello (10/13, 76.9%).
Special teams were the key tonight, as the Bulldogs went 2/3 on its man-advantage opportunities while the ‘Cats were unsuccessful on all three of its opportunities.
NMU now looks to bounce back tomorrow night, as game two against Ferris from the Berry is set for 6:07 p.m.
