Carr scores for Wildcats

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The NMU men’s soccer team completed its down state road trip with a 2-1 loss to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals.

The Cardinals started hot, outshooting the ‘Cats with six attempts to none in the first 10 minutes, before breaking the tie and scoring in the 11th minute.

The Wildcats would respond 20 minutes later after James Carr capitalized off an excellent rush to find a rebound and score his first career goal as a Wildcat.

Goalkeeper Nils Cedergren made three saves in the final 15 minutes to ensure the ‘Cats went to the locker even at one-a-piece. Cedergren would go on to make six saves on the evening, a single-game career high.

The Wildcats outshot the Cardinals 4-1 in the first 35 minutes of the second frame before the Cardinals took a late lead thanks to Jayden Cameron.

Despite corner kicks, free kicks, and a shot from Cedergren, the Wildcats were unable to equalize.

The Cardinals posted opponent highs against the ‘Cats in shots (15), shots on target (8), and corner kicks (9).

The ‘Cats went 0-1-1 on the weekend between Davenport on Friday and Saginaw today, but have an immediate opportunity to respond, as the ‘Cats will host the Cardinals and Panthers at home this coming weekend.
