Coached two years at a Wisconsin high school

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech football head coach Dan Mettlach has announced the hiring of Jace Daniels as the Huskies tight ends coach. Daniels returns to Michigan Tech following two seasons at the helm of the Big Foot High School football team in Walworth, Wisconsin.

“I am extremely excited to welcome Jace back to our staff,” Mettlach said. “He is a high-energy coach who will get the most out of our guys.”

“I am extremely excited to be back at Michigan Tech coaching football,” Daniels mentioned. “Not only is this a great school, but an even better community. The Michigan Tech community understands the importance of academics for our student-athletes and I love being a part of that culture.”

Daniels was previously part of the Tech Football coaching staff from 2019 to 2021, where he was the offensive line coach. Prior to joining the Huskies, Daniels had a stint at his alma mater, Northern Michigan where he was the offensive line coach in 2017 & 2018.

Daniels, a native of Escanaba, Michigan, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Huskies staff. He graduated from Northern Michigan with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching. He was a four-year starter at left tackle on the offensive line for the Wildcats. He was a Second Team All-GLIAC honoree as a junior and was named First Team All-GLIAC following his senior season.

Daniels moved on to the professional ranks following his collegiate career when he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). Daniels was in Tampa Bay for over a year and was an offensive guard and center during his time there. Daniels then played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL) before wrapping up his professional career with the Baltimore Brigade in the Arena Football League (AFL).

Andy Crouch has also joined the Michigan Tech football staff as a volunteer coach. Crouch was a longtime head football coach at Lake Linden High School for over two decades and provided color commentary with Josh Ylitato on the radio a season ago.
