Lakosky ties more NMU scoring records
MARQUETTE, Mich. — The NMU lacrosse team got a 21-4 win over the Davenport Panthers thanks to a career performance from junior attacker Josie Lakosky.
The junior captain tied the program mark for most goals (9) and points (13) in a single game, moving herself to 71 goals on the season, one away from tying Minnie Bittell’s record for most goals in a single season, set in 2024.
NMUs’ 21 goals scored and 17-point differential are both the most against Davenport in program history. The 21 goals scored are the second most this season, behind the 23 scored against SVSU on 3/20/2026.
This sets up for a great game on Sunday against Grand Valley, which will feature senior day to honor Emily Radke, Mya Snyder, and Laine Stanton, and a chance to take a run at a GLIAC regular-season championship, should the Wildcats defeat the Lakers.
“If we can have the same intensity, make sure we don’t have lulls, and we can keep moving the way we have been on offense, I think we’ll have a good shot to have a competitive game.”
Along with the offensive outburst from Lakosky, an early draw control advantage aided the ‘Cats offensive efforts, as NMU went 10-0 on the first 10 consecutive draws before finishing the first half at 11-3. Taylor Roberts and Lakosky led the charge with five and four, respectively, before each finished the game with six apiece.
Head coach Lindsey (LeMay) Majkrzak was also impressed with her defense, which caused 12 turnovers today, and has caused at least 12 in four of the last five matches. Lakosky paced the way with four, followed by three each from Natalie Thomas and an efficient showing from Chrissy Sabby when she entered late in the game. NMU also went 17/18 on clear attempts and has now only dropped one clear in five of its past seven contests.
“[Recently] we have really challenged our defense to step up and try to cause turnovers instead of just being in the proper body position, and they’ve done that really well. Their intensity level is great, and I am really proud of them, especially their poise in the clear when bodies are flying at them.”
Goalkeeper Lauren Esposito earned the win, making five saves for a .625 SV% before Hannah Clark entered in the fourth quarter.
After today, Lakosky is now two away from breaking the NMU single-season goals record, 11 away from the single-season points record, and two away from both the single-season ground balls and draw controls record.
How It Happened
After a discombobulated start for both sides, the Panthers converted on a fast break into the Wildcat zone and scored the game’s opening tally five minutes into the contest. Lorinser got the game back to even a minute later, Lakosky connected with Jabas to take a 2-1 lead shortly after, and Lakosky won the draw and quickly took it the other way to give NMU a 3-1 lead with a pair of strikes just 11 seconds apart. Jabas scored her second with a minute left to go in the opening period, Lakosky connected with Lorinser 30 seconds later, and NMU would hold a 5-1 lead going into the second quarter.
Radke added her 10th goal of the season from a free position attempt, Lakosky found the back of the net from the field and from a free position attempt a minute later, and NMU stormed out to an 8-2 lead thanks to 10-straight draw controls. Davenport snapped its winless draw control streak on the ensuing draw, but Krista Pascavis caused a turnover, which led to Lakosky connecting with Carrico to take a 9-2 lead, and Davenport called a timeout. Lorinser scored and added an assist to a Lakosky tally, and NMU held a commanding 11-2 lead at halftime.
Davenport struck early into the second half, Laksoky responded with a goal of her own, and Esposito made a crucial save on the previous Panther goalscorer to send NMU on an offensive possession. Lakosky added another assist, Thomas caused a turnover in her defensive end, and the ‘Cats would turn its next possession into a goal.
Lakosky matched NMU’s single-game goal and point record with a caused turnover and goal early in the fourth quarter, and her day would be done as NMU held an 18-3 lead. Riley Wicklund scored her third goal of the season off of Laine Stanton’s third assist of the season, and Jabas netted her second of the evening, and NMU sported a 20-3 lead. Annabelle Johnson added a FPG to give NMU its 21st, and the game would conclude at 21-4.
