MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Sports shops are pulling out the bikes and equipment for when those U.P. trails are all set to go.
Ahead of the spring melt, Downwind Sports is making sure that not just experienced riders can get on the trails this summer, but beginners as well, offering a kids bike sale throughout the month of April.
Across the past year, the company has planned ahead for each season. Co-owner Bill Thompson says the only increases they’ve had to deal with are due to higher gas prices for shipments within the United States.
“We pride ourselves in being very flexible, taking into account everything that’s happening around us, and that includes price increases in gas,” he said. “We’ve placed these orders on our bikes a year in advance, and now we’re rolling them out.”
On top of gas prices currently averaging close to $4 per gallon, Downwind is showcasing high anticipation for the trail season ahead.
“It’s an exciting time to come into the store, everyday we’re unpacking new product,” said Thompson. “What better time to buy a bike than to get a little exercise and save a little money on gas.”
Downwind Sports is celebrating 50 years in 2026, planning a number of events throughout the year. More information can be found on shopdownwindsports.com.
