ECSANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Escanaba is still searching for its next manager.
Sitting City Manager Jim McNeil plans to move on from his position in mid-May. After announcing his intentions in December, the City Council began the process of hiring his replacement.
Council members interviewed two candidates in February. In March, they voted to extend an offer to their top candidate. However, that candidate has since withdrawn his application, leaving the City Council to interview a new candidate on Wednesday.
Although McNeil’s departure date is quickly approaching, he believes the City is well-prepared to handle the transition period.
“We have a very stable council, a very experienced council, experienced staff, and if there is an interim required, we certainly have capability here,” McNeil said. “Escanaba is in a great spot. It’s a really good situation, and Escanaba will be just fine.”
While council members weigh the current applicants, anyone else interested in the position is encouraged to apply. To learn more about the position, click here.
