MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday morning at the Marquette Holiday Inn, the Lake Superior Community Partnership held its second Breakfast & Business event of 2026, with a focus on U.P. Healthcare.
Attendees heard key updates from Tonya Darner of UPHS-Marquette, Elise Bur of NMU Center for Rural Health, Melissa Holmquist of the Upper Peninsula Health Plan, and Lauren LaPine and Laura Appel from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association.
The panel covered upcoming federal policy changes, such as the H.R.1., or the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and its future impact on healthcare statewide, employment rates, and evolving technology advancements from a rural standpoint.
“I think a lot of us take our health and our healthcare for granted,” said Appel. “It really is important for people to understand the things that are happening in your healthcare systems on all levels.”
The LSCP will host its next Breakfast & Business on May 29 at the Mather Inn in Ishpeming, to discuss updates in the West End. More information can be found here.
