MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of longtime public servant Stephen Adamini during its regular meeting tonight.
Following recent health concerns, Adamini submitted his resignation to Marquette County Board chair Joe Derocha earlier this week.
The 81-year-old Marquette native did not attend tonight’s meeting; however, he did send along his regards. Adamini previously served in the Michigan State House, representing the 109th district from 2001 to 2006, before leaving office due to term limits.
Adamini had represented District 3 on the county board since 2017. District 3 covers much of the area around South Marquette.
“He will be greatly missed. He did a lot of things here. He was a strong leader. Just a solid, solid guy, and even a better friend,” said county board chair Joe Derocha.
With his departure, the process now begins to select a replacement.
Board members will review applications and hope to make an appointment during a special session on Thursday afternoon.
