LANSING, Mich. (WZMQ) – Former 109th District Representative Sara Cambensy has announced her candidacy for Michigan’s 38th District state senate seat as an independent. She is now the fifth candidate running to replace term-limited State Senator Ed McBroom.
In a press release Tuesday morning, she addressed her hope to bring ‘much needed civility to Lansing after years of political divisions that have divided our state.’
“I served as a Dem before, but I feel like right now it’s best to go on a path where I don’t need to be holding to a party and to just do the work for the people,” she explained to WZMQ 19. “It’s how you present yourself, it’s how you work together, but it’s also telling the story of the Upper Peninsula and what those needs are, and how they fit in with support from our colleagues downstate.”
After five years in Lansing, Cambensy passed nine public acts as a Democrat. Prior to Lansing, Cambensy served on the Marquette city and planning commissions, and was the director of adult education for Marquette area schools.
Cambensy is currently the only independent in the 38th District race. More information on that race can be found here.
