Yooper Fitness is located at 13 North 9th Street.

Yooper Fitness is located at 13 North 9th Street.

GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – An Upper Peninsula fitness center has expanded its operations to Delta County.

Yooper Fitness has become a home for members in Manistique, L’Anse, Newberry, and Houghton. This month, the business opened a new location in Gladstone.

“My husband and I opened Yooper Fitness in 2020, and we’re excited to be in Delta County,” said co-owner Emily Marcotte. “Our kids play hockey over here; we’re over here all the time. I spent so much time here as a child.”

Clients can take advantage of the gym’s resources and equipment at their choice of Yooper Fitness facilities.

“If you have a membership here in Gladstone, you can visit any of the locations that we have,” Marcotte said. “We have personal training. We are looking to offer group classes, and then we’re looking to offer a lot more here in Gladstone as well.”

Some additional offerings still in the works include a synthetic puck pit and a batting cage.

To ensure Yooper Fitness is accessible on anyone’s schedule, members receive 24-hour access.

“You can come in and use it when it works best for you,” Marcotte explained. “We did just also add Bluetooth access so that you can get in with your phone as opposed to a key fob, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting your key fob at home and getting locked out.”

Marcotte says her goal is to help each person who walks through the door feel like they belong in the Yooper Fitness community.

“When people come here, we want them to feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves,” she said. “No matter their age, their gender, their background, we want them to feel like they have a place here.”

To celebrate the new location, Yooper Fitness will host a grand opening with giveaways and activities on May 2. For more information on the business, visit yooperfitness.net or the Yooper Fitness Gladstone Facebook page.
