IRONWOOD, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) is investigating the death of a two-year-old boy from Ironwood.
At approximately 4:41 a.m. on March 19, GCSO deputies responded to a report of a deceased child in Ironwood Township. After immediately assessing the child for signs of life, deputies confirmed that the child was dead.
Officials secured the scene and launched an investigation, temporarily closing Lake Road and Sunset Road. Further investigative resources were requested from the Michigan State Police, including personnel from the Marquette Forensic Laboratory.
“This is a tragic accident, losing a young member of our community is very hard for all of us,” County Sheriff Jorge H. Cruz stated in a press release. “We will continue to investigate to determine what happened and will provide further updates to the public when that information is available.”
According to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, there is no danger to the public. The department was assisted by the Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, a Michigan State Police traffic crash reconstructionist, the Ironwood Public Safety Department, the Gogebic County Road Commission, the Ironwood Township Fire Department, and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
