ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Thursday, a jury found a Delta County man guilty of murdering a pregnant woman almost three years ago.
On July 8, 2023, the body of 22-year-old Harley Corwin was found with two bullet wounds to the skull in the woods of Ford River Township. After seven days of witness testimony, 35-year-old Tavaris Lee Jackson was found guilty of first-degree murder, assault intentionally causing miscarriage or stillbirth, and felony firearm possession.
The case was prosecuted by LaDonna Logan and Caitlin Kirby of the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. On Friday, Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement on Jackson’s conviction:
“While no outcome can undo this devastating loss, I am grateful to the prosecutors who helped secure long-awaited justice in this tragic case. I hope this verdict provides a sense of closure for Harley’s family.”

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Jackson faces potential life sentences for both the first-degree murder conviction and the assault intentionally causing miscarriage or stillbirth. The firearm offense is a two-year felony.
Jackson will be sentenced on June 2 at 1:30 p.m. in the 47th Circuit Court in Delta County. For WZMQ 19’s report on the jury’s verdict, click here.
