MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette Symphony Orchestra is holding its next concert this weekend.
On Saturday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m. in Kaufman Auditorium, the show will include selections from Rossini’s ‘William Tell Overture,’ Douglas Moore’s ‘Ballade of Baby Doe,’ and Offenbach’s ‘Orpheus in the Underworld.’ The second half of the special concert will feature three guest vocalists performing various movements of ‘Carmen!’ suites No. 1 and No. 2.
Director Octavio Más-Arocas says most of these tunes are frequently heard in films and radio.
“This show is about opera highlights and favorites, a blockbuster lineup if you will,” he said. “In the first part of the concert, we are playing some pieces that are very famous that the audience might not know by name, but the melodies are there.”
Tickets start at $20 for the general public, and $13 for students. Those can be found at the Superior Dome or on NMU’s ticketing website.
