MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Submissions are now open for an exhibit showcasing artists living within 100 miles of Manistique.
The Lake Effect Community Arts Center is bringing back its Made U.P. Art Show for a second year. Artists can submit one piece of work made with any medium. Last year’s inaugural show featured everything from paintings and digital artwork to woodworking and pottery.
“The coolest part about Made U.P. was finding out what was hiding underneath all the camouflage and flannel,” said Lake Effect Operations Manager Katie Birdsley. “There’s so much talent here in the U.P. that we don’t get to see because it is put towards practical endeavors. When we get to see that art and what treasure is within them, it’s the coolest thing in the world.”
Made U.P. allows artists to expose a new audience to their work. Birdsley says the show is also an opportunity for artists to sell what they make.
“It connected artists with people who wanted to commission that art,” she said. “There were so many different types of art form that you could find art that really spoke to you, and you could order something specific from that person.”
Submissions are due March 28, and Made U.P. will open to the public with a reception on April 10. Artists interested in participating are asked to visit the Lake Effect Community Arts Center, located at 244 South Cedar Street, to fill out a submission form. Non-members of the arts center will be asked to pay a small fee.
More details on this year’s Made U.P. Art Show will be posted on the Lake Effect Community Arts Center Facebook page.
