Marquette’s Restaurant Week returns Sunday bigger and better

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – For 11 years, Marquette’s Downtown Development Authority has encouraged culinary innovation during Restaurant Week.

13 downtown restaurants are participating in this celebration of all things delicious. “Any opportunity to try and get more people out, while allowing restaurants to experiment in a controlled environment, I think is, yeah, a terrific thing to have, especially in March,” said Michael Bradford of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority.

Restaurant Week started out as a way to get people into area restaurants during the slowest part of the year after the holiday season, well before springtime, when ice, slush, and mud dominate the landscape. “So this really is an event that focuses more on restaurants being able to provide something new and unique to the locals,” Bradford said. “For example, it’s not just an opportunity to experiment and just inject some new business into a downtown when things are usually slow, but it’s also an opportunity for businesses to see something new that they could then add to their permanent menu.”

At Trenary Toast, Home Bakery, Owner Bri Wynsma said it’s a chance to educate people and showcase their diverse and ever-expanding menu. “You know, a lot of people assume we just kind of sell Trenary toast and coffee, but we have a lot more than that,” she said. “We have a whole menu focusing on kind of Scandinavian inspired food.”

Restaurant Week starts on Sunday and runs until March 18 in Marquette.
