ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two people suffered injuries as a result of a fire at an Escanaba apartment building on Saturday.
In the early hours of the morning, the Escanaba Public Safety Department responded to a smoke alarm activation at Harbor Tower Apartments. Officers received reports of the smell of smoke within the building.
Upon arrival, officers quickly located the source of the fire and initiated an interior fire attack. The fire was brought under control in a short amount of time, preventing further damage.
A Public Safety officer and one civilian were injured during the incident. The majority of Harbor Tower residents were able to safely return to their apartments. Residents who were temporarily displaced due to smoke or water damage are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Escanaba Public Safety thanks the many agencies that assisted during the fire, stating that their efforts highlight the strength of coordinated emergency response. Assisting agencies included Delta County Central Dispatch, Rampart EMS, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Delta County Search and Rescue, RTF, the DATA Bus, Delta County Emergency Management, the Ford River Fire Department, the Escanaba Township Fire Department, the Michigan State Police, the Escanaba Civic Center, the Escanaba Water Department, DTE Energy, and the Escanaba Electric Department.
