GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan State Police (MSP) has selected F/Lt. Patrick Janisse as the new commander of the Gladstone Post.
F/Lieutenant Janisse brings more than a decade of dedicated service to the communities of Delta and Schoolcraft counties. A native of Elk Rapids, Janisse earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and communication from Aquinas College. He joined the MSP in 2014 as a member of the 127th Trooper Recruit School.
After recruit school, Janisse was first assigned to the St. Ignace Post, where he worked out of Manistique and served as the post’s community service trooper. He later transferred to the Gladstone Post, where he served as a field training officer and evidence technician before being promoted to sergeant. He helped develop the Upper Peninsula Teenage Defensive Driving Program, improving safety for more than 100 teen drivers, and he was named the Eighth District’s “Trooper of the Year” in 2023 for his efforts.
“Throughout my career, I have served both Delta and Schoolcraft counties as a trooper and sergeant, building strong relationships with the community and local partners,” Janisse said. “I look forward to continuing that work. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is a special place with wonderful people. I will support our troopers and will continue MSP’s investment in both counties. We will focus on proactive policing, deterring crime, engaging with the community, and reducing serious crashes through traffic enforcement that discourages dangerous driving. We look forward to working alongside our local law enforcement partners, prosecutors, community leaders, and others to keep our communities safe for everyone.”
As post commander, Janisse will oversee operations for the Gladstone Post and the Manistique Outpost. While there are seven MSP posts in the Upper Peninsula, the Manistique Outpost is the only outpost. Different than a detachment, the outpost functions as a separate work site that remains organizationally part of the Gladstone Post and provides service to Schoolcraft County.
