MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – NMU students were given a new chance at sharing their research projects on Thursday.
The university’s inaugural Winter Research Day gave undergrads, graduates, and faculty members a chance to pitch their research projects in three minute presentations open to the public. It also allowed for poster presentations to be shared in the common spaces of Jamrich Hall.
“The work that’s happening here, most people have no idea what it’s about. The students that are presenting truly are the experts in this situation,” said Tesse Sayen, director of Research Development & Sponsor Programs.
“It’s a little tricky sometimes to be able to break down a lot of those heavy duty scientific terms to a more general audience, but events like these are the place to do it,” explained Ian Grochowski, a junior majoring in biochemistry and psychology.
Students had the chance vote on each project, with money on the line for the best posters and presentations. The university plans to expand the day into an annual tradition around the winter midterm.
