MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over the next two weekends, the NMU Theatre and Dance Program will host its own rendition of American classic, ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’
On Wednesday night, the department held a dress rehearsal, before they open the floor for upcoming showtimes on February 19-21 and 26-28.
The 1950’s New Orleans based drama, full of intensity and heartbreak comes after months of several-hour long student rehearsals. The performances will be held in NMU’s two-sided Blackbox Theatre, where the show’s lead performer playing Blanche DuBois, says she looks forward to immersing the audience in each scene.
“It’s kind of like being in the play yourself because you’re so close to everyone and you can see all of the emotion” said junior, Isabella Fontaine. “This is a Tennessee Williams play, so it’s a classic. We’ve put it in the time period, but have adapted it a little for our more modern audience.”
Tickets and more information for opening weekend can be found on NMU’s ticketing website.
