MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – As one of the Upper Peninsula’s largest regional events of the year, the 2026 UP200 brought a number of politicians to Marquette for the weekend.
State representatives and candidates for this year’s upcoming major election came to cheer on the sled dogs and share the love from all across Michigan. This included, 38th District Senate Representative Ed McBroom, 109th House District Representative Karl Bohnak, and 2026 U.S. Senate Candidate Mallory McMorrow.
McMorrow was attending her first race, and says the experience is worth the trip, no matter how far folks came from.
“There is just so much energy, this brings people from not only all across Michigan, all across the country, all across the worlds here to the Upper Peninsula,” she said. “It’s just such a great celebration of the state, we have every season, we are not afraid of winter here, we come outside and it’s just awesome to see it.”
WZMQ 19 also welcomed Lieutenant Governor, Garland Gilchrist for Friday’s Insights segment, which can be found here.
