MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Attracting and growing business opportunities in the Upper Peninsula was the topic of discussion today at a conference held at NMU. Members of Operation Action U.P. and business leaders came together for their annual meeting to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the future. Excellence Awards were also given out, recognizing four outstanding for-profit businesses that have made a significant impact on the region’s economic well-being. Among the issues facing businesses in the U.P. is a declining workforce, something the conference viewed as a major concern.
“One of our biggest issues in the Upper Peninsula is the decline of the workforce, the baby boomers retiring, and not enough younger generation coming up to take those jobs,” said Operation Action U.P. President Joe Esbrook.
Award winners also shared their business success strategies and celebrated future growth.
