CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – Law enforcement agencies are investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that occurred on Friday, February 6.
Around 10:32 a.m., Chocolay Township Police were called to a snowmobile accident about one mile from the Alger County Line. Officers arrived near the scene and were transported to the crash site by several snowmobilers.
When officers reached the 44-year-old female who had been operating the snowmobile, CPR efforts were underway. Officers continued administering CPR until the Chocolay Township Fire Department arrived to assist. The fire department brought its rescue sled and transported the woman to a waiting UPHS – Marquette ambulance. Responders attempted lifesaving measures for some time, but the woman succumbed to her injuries.
Chocolay Township Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations, and the Michigan DNR are investigating the accident. It is believed that the woman hit a dip in the trail, causing her snowmobile to leave the path.
