ISHPEMING, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Ishpeming Township Planning Commission held a public hearing tonight about a possible new housing development. The hearing allowed citizens to comment on a possible partnership with the Marquette County Land Bank Authority to examine the feasibility of redeveloping a parcel of land at the end of River Street in West Ishpeming for housing.
“I think everyone in this community is aware that we need affordable housing. So if there’s a way we can work together to make sure that as much is protected as possible, I would love to have that conversation,” said local resident Brian Wallen.
The land bank proposes to use epa site assessment funds for conducting a survey of the area in the spring of 2026. The comments from the standing room only crowd were mixed, between the need for affordable housing and the protection of the greenspace.
