ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This Super Bowl weekend, sports fans have a chance to buy and sell collectibles ahead of the big game.
Escanaba’s Super Sports Cards and Memorabilia Show returns to the Delta County Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, February 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizer Adam Hinch says when he started the event last year, he realized that the area had not had an event like it in quite some time.
“This hobby took a bad dive in the 90s and really destroyed the market,” Hinch explained. “COVID-19 brought this back. In an era where you were sheltering in place, it still gave you a chance to order cards and have them shipped to you. The card market exploded, and it hasn’t slowed down ever since.”
In addition to athlete cards, attendees will find Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon cards, autographed jerseys and helmets, comic books, video games, and a variety of other memorabilia. Hinch has been accumulating his sports card collection since childhood, and he says it has been a fun and rewarding hobby.
“If you like to play the stock market, it’s kind of the same thing,” he said. “You buy the rookies and the players that are on the Super Bowl teams. If those teams win the Super Bowl, those players’ cards are going to go up. If they don’t, they’re going to stay where they’re at or go down.”
Admission to Escanaba’s Super Sports Cards and Memorabilia Show is free. The Delta County Chamber of Commerce is located at 1001 North Lincoln Road.
A few vendor tables are still available for $50 each. Those interested can call (715) 292-9137 for more information.
