GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – It may not feel like it now, but spring is just around the corner. The Delta Conservation District is helping community members get a head start on the season.
The District’s annual Tree Sale is live now through April 15. This year’s catalogue features pine trees, fruit trees, and wildlife shrubs, which will be available for pickup at the U.P. State Fairgrounds on April 24 and 25. The Conservation District is also selling an assortment of potted plants that are ideal for a fall growing season.
“You can buy trees in the spring for fall pickup,” explained Delta Conservation District Manager Taylor Shay. “We will plant them in pots so that they can grow more and have a higher success rate in the fall to plant them as they grow dormant.”
The Tree Sale is the Conservation District’s largest annual fundraiser, with the District selling more than 50,000 trees and shrubs in 2025. In addition to supporting local conservation efforts and programs, Shay says purchasing and growing a tree also has environmental benefits.
“We are a conservation district, so we are agriculture- and forestry-focused,” she said. “Planting trees does a lot for the community and for conservation, providing fresh, clean air, water resources, and many other things.”
The Delta Conservation District Tree Sale catalogue is available to view at deltacd.org or at the Conservation District office at 2003 Minneapolis Avenue in Gladstone. If a tree or shrub is sold out on the website, Shay encourages patrons to call the Conservation District at (906) 553-7700 to see if more can be ordered or if an alternative species is available.
