ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This Valentine’s Day, the Delta Animal Shelter encourages supporters to show their love for an animal in need.
Through Friday, February 6, the shelter is offering valentine’s baskets for a donation of $25. Donors receive Sayklly’s chocolate hearts, a rose from Trotter’s Floral, and a valentine made by shelter staff. The valentine includes a photo of a cat or dog currently living at the shelter.
Valentine’s baskets include something sweet for shelter pets as well. On February 14, each animal pictured on a valentine will receive a special treat of their own.
“Dogs will probably get a Kong with some yummy treats and peanut butter, and cats will probably get some extra special wet food treats, catnip, things like that,” said Shelter Operations Coordinator Vonnie Bruce. “They’re at the shelter, so they don’t get to have a loving Valentine’s Day in a home. We try to make it as special here as we can, but it’s just a way to include everyone in it. I think it’s really fun that they get to see who’s going to be getting a treat in their honor, too.”
Valentine’s baskets will be available to pick up at the Delta Animal Shelter on February 12 and 13. Orders can be placed by calling (906) 789-0230 or by visiting the shelter at 6975 County Road, 426 M.5 Road.
The shelter has also announced a new virtual storefront where supporters can purchase shirts, stickers, mugs, and other merchandise. To view the storefront, click here.
