Crews battle residential fire in Escanaba; nearby residents warned of possible dirty water

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Friday, Delta County first responders were dispatched to a residential fire in Escanaba.

At 9:35 a.m., Escanaba Public Safety, the Ford River Township Volunteer Fire Department, and the Cornell Fire Department responded to visible flames coming from a home on South 8th Street. The street was closed to traffic while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

Crews initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze using a ladder truck and a handline. All occupants had safely exited the residence prior to firefighters’ arrival, and no civilians were injured.

The fire was successfully contained and extinguished, preventing further spread or damage to nearby dwellings. Due to frigid weather conditions, Delta County Search and Rescue provided a warming trailer for personnel and equipment, allowing crews to thaw equipment. Rampart was also on scene to assist. The Red Cross was contacted for the residents.

Escanaba Public Safety thanks the community for its support, including bringing hot coffee to the scene to keep responders warm.

The City of Escanaba Water Department is advising residents living near 4th Avenue South and South 8th to be aware of possible dirty water. If dirty water occurs, the department recommends running the water for five to ten minutes to clear the line. If dirty water persists, residents can call the department at (906) 786-3291.

WZMQ 19 is working to obtain information about the extent and cause of the fire. This story will be updated when official details become available.
