MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University students had the opportunity to check out the available organizations held by their fellow Wildcats on Wednesday.
From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Jamrich Hall, while students traveled between classes, they could check out and sign up for a number of clubs and campus programs. Around 20 groups were at the winter org fair, including the NMU swim club, a Taylor Swift interest club, and a few student activism groups.
This included Students Demand Action, an organization focused on gun violence prevention and safe storage, as well as speaking out for victims of domestic and sexual abuse. Just an hour into the fair, the organization already had a full page of students signed up for information.
Students Demand Action co-presidents Emma Kaiser and Ellen Grams say the event compared to the university’s ‘Fall Fest’ from the first day of classes, as an accessible way to engage with one another.
“It’s a really good way to reach different students and talk to people that you might not always see around,” said Kaiser.
“It’s pretty much all positive feedback, we have snacks and candy out. I think students are just excited to be a part of a community,” said Grams.
Student organizations are made possible through the university’s Center for Student Enrichment. A full list of 450 current NMU clubs and student organizations can be found at thehub.nmu.edu.
