BARAGA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Baraga County Economic Development Corporation held its annual community update dinner this evening.
The event allowed residents and business owners to hear updates on local economic progress and share business strategies.
Attendees heard from guest speaker Marty Fittante, CEO of InvestUp, about demographic trends in the workforce.
In addition, the Baraga County EDC recognized the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s new housing project as “Project of the Year.”
The project will provide ready to build on housing lots in L’Anse.
“We wanted to lay that infrastructure. The goal of this project was to lay the infrastructure for those homeowners, new homeowners who may not understand how hard that part of a housing project is. So having that in place really reduces costs for families and allows an easier process to own a home,” said LaPointe-Dunham, CEO of The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
Lapointe-Dunham says providing affordable workforce housing is critical to the continued economic growth of Baraga County.
