MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – After multiple accidents across the U.P. and a fatality already this year, law enforcement is reminding the snowmobiling community to ride safely on the trails.
This includes operating sober and with proper equipment, remaining along the right side, and riding at an adequate speed, especially during the busy time. Marquette County Sheriff Gregory Zyburt says the best option is to slow down and keep other riders in mind.
“With the snow comes the people, and more accidents,” he said. “While operating, don’t be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, it’s so important, because your reaction time is slower, and it’s just not worth it. This is a family sport, people go out with their kids on snowmobiles. You have to be aware of your surroundings, and if you’re not from the area, you have to slow down.”
