Second-Team All-American for Huskies in 2015-16
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Former Michigan Tech hockey All-American Alex Petan has been named to Team Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Italians are hosting the games with hockey to be played in Milan.
Petan skated in 153 games for the Huskies from 2012-16 and tallied 135 points, scoring 59 goals and adding 76 assists. He was a second-team All-American in 2015-16 and was also honored as the WCHA Player of the Year, WCHA Scoring Champion, and All-WCHA First Team Selection. He was also a Hobey Baker Finalist and captain as a senior, and was honored on the All-WCHA Second Team as a junior and the WCHA All-Rookie Team as a freshman.
Petan is in his 10th season of professional hockey and his ninth pro season in Europe. He represented Italy at the 2021 IIHF World Championship and the 2022 IIHF World Championship.
Petan is a native of Delta, British Columbia, and played three seasons in the BCHL before arriving in Houghton.
The Olympic tournament will be a 12-team field competing from Feb. 11-22. Italy is in Group B along with Finland, Sweden, and Slovakia.
