Averaged 31.5 points in two wins
HOUGHTON, Mich. – For the second-consecutive week and the third time this season, senior men’s basketball guard Marcus Tomashek has been tabbed the GLIAC’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 9, the league announced Monday.
Tomashek, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, was clutch all weekend for the Huskies, averaging 31.5 points on 48.6 percent from the field (17-35), 52.4 percent from three (11-21) and 81.8 percent at the free throw line (18-22) in two wins that needed all 40 minutes to see the Black & Gold prevail.
Tomashek had a 27-point outing, knocking down five 3-pointers while going 10-12 from the charity stripe in a 80-78 decision at Saginaw Valley State before notching his 17th game of 30 or more points in his career, with a 36-point outburst to fend off Lake Superior State (84-83) on Saturday, shooting 11-18 from the field, 6-10 from three and 8-10 from the foul line, adding a team-leading five dimes.
His 63-point weekend brings his career point total to 2,082 points, surpassing head coach and fellow All-American Josh Buettner (2,061) for fourth all-time on the scoring list, seven points behind Jeff Boinski (1995-99) for No. 3 all-time.
Tomashek and the rest of the men’s basketball squad are back at home this weekend, welcoming Wayne State on Thursday and Purdue Northwest Saturday.
