MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Over the past week, the Marquette County Special Operations Division and Search and Rescue unit responded to two snowmobile accidents.
On Thursday evening, deputies responded to Trail 417 on Mount Marquette to assist the City of Marquette with a single snowmobile personal injury accident. A deputy and Search and Rescue personnel were able to access the injured rider. They transported EMS personnel to the scene using the department’s tracked side-by-side.
On Friday, deputies responded to Trail 8 between Morgan Meadows Road and Lake Enchantment Road for an accident involving two snowmobiles and one injured rider. A 56-year-old male from Alto, Michigan, and a 44-year-old male from Columbus, Indiana, were unable to avoid each other on a tight corner. Both riders were thrown from their sleds. The 56-year-old sustained injuries and was transported to UPHS – Marquette.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office reminds all snowmobilers to ride as far to the right as possible and to reduce speed in corners and congested areas.
