SHINGLETON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – One individual has been pronounced dead following a snowmobile crash in Alger County.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on January 17, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post responded to a snowmobile crash on Trail 8 near H-58 in Shingleton Township. The preliminary investigation found that the snowmobile was traveling on Trail 8 when the driver was unable to negotiate a corner on the trail. The snowmobile struck a tree at a high rate of speed.
Emergency medical aid was administered, but it was unsuccessful. The driver of the snowmobile, a 22-year-old man from Garrettsville, Ohio, passed away due to the injuries be sustained in the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this loss,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District Public Information Officer.
MSP was assisted by Alger County EMS and Alger County Rescue 21.
