NMU Men’s Swimmers and Divers edge Stevens Point

Ballardin and Khmara earn 18 points each for the Wildcats

MARQUETTE, Mich. — The #11/#11 men’s swim and dive team competed to a 133-128 win over UW-Stevens Point today from the PEIF Pool.

Matteo Ballardin and Daniel Khmara led the way, both earning 18 points for their team. Ballardin claimed gold in both the 100 and 200 breast while turning in an exhibition in the 500 free, and Khmara stood atop the podium in both the 200 and 100 free, earned silver with the 200 medley relay team, and swam an exhibition with the 200 medley relay team.

Alessandro Rosatelli gathered 13 points thanks to a gold in the 200 IM and a pair of silvers in the 100 breast and 200 medley relay. Caleb Rice earned 10 points, highlighted by a win in the 100 back.

Timothee Garin, Will LaCount, Rafael Schaub, and Max Swiatkowski all earned nine points for their team.

How It Happened
The NMU A, B, and C relays finished first, second, and third with times of 1:31.81, 1:36.25, and 1:40.76, respectively. Ian Rocheleau, Andrew Tease, Will LaCount, and Leo Nolles led the A team.

The teams swam a mixed 1000 free, and the men’s team had two representatives. Timothee Garin swam an exhibition, posting a time of 9:29.92, and Rafael Schaub posted a time of 10:32.26.

Daniel Khmara and Zachary Billotte claimed gold and silver in the 200 free, posting times of 1:42.44 and 1:50.47, respectively. Nahali placed seventh at 1:57.64, and Fulconi swam 1:40.83 as an exhibition.

Caleb Rice claimed gold in the 100 back, winning by two seconds with his time of 54.16. Tease finished fifth at 59.79, Lowery seventh at 1:04.79, and Massotte posted a 53.18 in an exhibition.

The ‘Cats swept the podium in the 100 breast, as Matteo Ballardin (1:00.08) finished first, Ale Rosatelli (1:00.93) second, and Gabriel Fulconi (1:01.54) third, as he beat fourth-place by five seconds. Boomer and Rice finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

The ‘Cats only had one athlete in the 200 fly, and he swam an exhibition; Schaub posted a time of 1:57.39.

The top two spots in the 50 free belonged to Swiatkowski (22.03) and Rocheleau (22.42), claiming gold and silver for NMU. Rice finished fifth, Tease seventh, Boomer ninth, and Lowery 12th.

The 3-meter diving was the first board for the men, and NMU claimed four of the top five spots. Diego Carrillo finished second at 276.53, Travis Thornton won bronze at 267.08, Tobie Stiles finished third at 238.13, and Ryan Foucault finished fifth at 237.53.

The ‘Cats swept the podium in the 100 free, as Khmara (46.92), Massotte (49.11), and Swiatkowski (49.74) claimed gold, silver, and bronze. Nolles (44.48) and LaCount (46.31) both swam exhibition events.

No ‘Cats swam in the 200 back.

Ballardin was the only Wildcat and one of three to compete in the 200 breast, and he claimed gold with a time of 2:11.56.

Garin led the field in the 500 free, posting a first-place finish with his time of 4:38.82. Both Ballardin (4:47.17) and Billotte (5:03.69) swam exhibitions.

LaCount comfortably paced the field in the 100 fly, claiming gold with 52.81. Rocheleau (54.17) and Swiatkowski (54.20) swam exhibitions.

All Wildcat divers competed in exhibitions in the 1-meter diving: Foucault (237.53), Stiles (238.13), Thornton (267.08), and Carrillo (276.53).

Rosatelli claimed gold in the 200 IM as the only Wildcat to compete as a non-exhibition with his time of 2:00.74. Massotte (2:02.71) and Billotte (2:29.03) both swam exhibitions.

The NMU A and B 200 free relay teams both swam exhibitions, and both posted times of 1:24.13. The NMU C team finished third with their time of 1:33.77.
