Cegllinski won both diving events
MARQUETTE, Mich. — The NMU women’s #11 swim and #5 dive team defeated UW-Steven’s Point 185-75 in the PEIF Pool today.
One of the best divers in the nation, Kalina Ceglinski, paced the ‘Cats in points with 18 after claiming gold in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Matching Ceglinski in points was Kenzie Stute, who garnered 18 points from a pair of gold medals in the 200 back and IM, along with a silver as a member of the 200 medley relay team.
Phini Schneider compiled 13 points thanks to gold and silver in the 500 free and 100 breast. Both Evie DeCarlo and Annika Geyer earned 12 points for their team, as DeCarlo earned gold and bronze in the 200 fly and free, respectively, and Geyer earned gold and bronze in the 1000 and 50 free, respectively.
Manuela Araujo, Joanne Arbic, Ludovica Bonini, Annie Devine, Abigail Keen, Ellie Kilgard, and Sophia Moore all earned nine team points.
How It Happened
Event one of the evening was the 200 medley relay, and NMU took the top four spots. The NMU B team (1:49.32) of Evangeline Pierce, Bonini, Moore, and Keen finished first, followed by NMU C (1:50.61), NMU D (1:51.73), and NMU E (1:53.09). The NMU A team of Emma Casas, DeCarlo, Phini Schneider, and Arbic swam a time of 1:44.10 as an exhibition.
There was a mixed 1000 free following the relay, and Annika Geyer was the lone woman to swim. She posted a time of 10:56.61.
The ‘Cats swept the podium and claimed four of the top five spots in the 200 free, led by Ellie Kilgard (1:59.37), and followed by Laura Stockinger (2:02.15) in second and DeCarlo (2:02.40) in third. Pierce finished fifth at 2:07.52, and Santi swam an exhibition where she posted a time of 1:54.18.
The ‘Cats swept the podium in back-to-back events, this time claiming the top three spots in the 100 back. Manuela Araujo claimed gold with her time of 1:01.57, Nicole Malinova silver with her time of 1:03.67, and Julia Plevak rounded out the podium at 1:04.20. Blackmore finished sixth, Millward seventh, Devine eighth, and Arbic ninth.
Gold and silver belonged to Bonini and Schneider in the 100 breast, who touched the wall at 1:07.54 and 1:12.98, respectively. Casas and Izydorek finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
There were two swimmers to compete in the 200 fly, and the lone Wildcat was DeCarlo, who claimed gold at 2:20.05.
The ‘Cats dominated the 50 free, claiming the top five spots in the event, with Keen (24.63) and Burda (24.76) finishing just 0.13 seconds apart for gold and silver. Geyer (25.80) rounded out the podium, and Tegan Rose (25.96) and Sophia Moore (26.08) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Stute, Izydorek, Zimpel, Bonini, and Blackmore finished eighth through twelfth, Karubas at 15th, and Pierce at 18th.
The 1-meter diving was the first board event of the day, and the ‘Cats swept the podium, led by one of the best divers in the nation, Kalina Ceglinski (281.93). Grace Daly (234.45) finished second, and Josie Bossen (215.85) finished third.
The ‘Cats controlled the 100 free, claiming the top six times, with the top five times coming within 0.75 seconds of each other. Those top six include Arbic (54.20), Keen (54.28), Stockinger (54.55), Burda (54.83), Kilgard (54.95), and Rose (56.77). Karubas rounded out the field in 13th at 1:01.79.
There were only three athletes to swim in the 200 back. Stute claimed gold at 2:10.42, and Araujo swam an exhibition, posting a time of 2:12.37.
There were four swimmers in the 200 breast, two of whom were from the home side. Moore claimed gold at 2:34.58, and Geyer swam an exhibition time of 2:40.79.
The ‘Cats had three representatives in the 500 free, and it was Schneider who claimed gold at 5:35.42. Casas (5:38.68) and Plevak (5:39.69) both swam exhibitions.
Devine claimed gold in the 100 fly with her time of 1:00.68, the only Wildcat to swim a non-exhibition. Santi (1:00.93), Zimpel (1:01.62), Malinova (1:02.95), Stockinger (1:02.98), Blackmore (1:03.43), and Millward (1:07.48) all swam exhibitions.
The 3-meter diving rounded out the board events, and it was Ceglinski claiming first again, posting a score of 281.93. Bossen (215.85) and Daly (234.45) both dove exhibitions.
Stute claimed gold in the 200 IM, posting a time of 2:14.31. The other three Wildcats in the event swam exhibitions: Schneider (2:18.17), Casas (2:21.45), and Pierce (2:23.25).
The NMU A team of Keen, Stockinger, Burda, and Arbic claimed gold in the 200 free relay at 1:39.07. The NMU B (1:40.18), D (1:44.73), and C (1:45.24) teams swam exhibitions.
