BESSEMER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Wisconsin man was killed in a snowmobile crash in Gogebic County on Sunday.
At approximately 10:31 a.m., Michigan State Police (MSP) Wakefield Post troopers and Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a snowmobile crash on Trail 2 in Bessemer Township. Through a preliminary investigation, officials found that the snowmobile was traveling eastbound on Trail 2 when the driver left the trail, lost control of the snowmobile, and struck a wooden post. Emergency medical care was administered on scene, but efforts were unsuccessful.
The driver, a 61-year-old man from Luxemburg, Wisconsin, died due to the injuries he sustained in the crash. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this loss,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District Public Information Officer.
MSP was assisted by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan DNR, Beacon Ambulance, Bessemer Township Fire Department, and Gogebic County Victim Services.
